A Closer Look at RIPE100 Qualifying Practices: Early Drainage With Winter Flooding for Rice
We continually work to expand the set of RIPE100 qualifying practices. Here we highlight early drainage with winter flooding for rice, which provides over $100 per acre in environmental benefits.
Rice producers who implement early drainage with winter flooding provide significant climate benefits. The practice reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 0.7 metric tons per acre, which is worth $37 per acre. However, the practice can also deliver over nearly $500 in water quality benefits per acre, as well soil quality benefits, reaching a total of $527 per acre.
