Funding for RIPE
RIPE’s funding and in-kind support comes from foundations, individual donors and agricultural trade associations. The following private foundations provide funding:
- Flora Family Foundation
- Heising-Simons Foundation
- Laughing Gull Foundation
- MacArthur Foundation
- Mertz Gilmore Foundation
- William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
All funders have been informed of RIPE’s intention to be governed by agricultural producers.
Funding for the RIPE Payments to Producers
Funding for the RIPE proposal, which would provide direct payments to producers, would come from a USDA conservation program in the federal government utilizing only new or unallocated funds. RIPE insists that funding should not come from any existing USDA programs or allocations, so that it does not remove funds from important programs.
The specific source of federal funding and legislation to authorize the program has not yet been determined. Potential funding vehicles include:
- An infrastructure bill
- Agricultural or climate bills
- Existing USDA authority of unallocated funds
- Annual appropriations
- Stimulus bills
